Lost in Translation

Movie Poster

Cinema4D, Redshift, After Effects, RedGiant, Photoshop
or this project, I created a movie poster inspired by Lost in Translation. The film explores themes of cultural, emotional, and relational disconnection and isolation through the quiet, philosophical journey of two individuals. Rather than directly referencing specific scenes or objects from the film, I focused on conveying its central themes.

I interpreted the feeling of cultural and relational alienation, and the emotional disconnect that the characters experience, as being like mismatched puzzle pieces. No matter how hard they try to fit together, they cannot form a single whole. To reflect this, I chose the concept of blocks, creating a cityscape of towering buildings that evoke the night view of Tokyo. The city also represents their isolation, as the hotel in Japan, where the characters reside, feels like a metaphorical cage.

Instead of using traditional, uniform Lego-style blocks, I intentionally deformed the shapes into twisted, unrecognizable forms to express the characters’ psychological turmoil. The scattered, disordered blocks mirror their inner struggles and the emotional disconnect that pervades their experience.
